Card Payments

Unified Checkout accepts multiple card types, including global networks such as Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Unified Checkout also accepts local schemes such as Cartes Bancaires in France, EFTPOS in Australia, and PayPak in Pakistan. Availability depends on your session configuration and the customer's device.

Card Networks

These are the values you can pass in the allowedCardNetworks array of your session request. The order determines preference for dual-branded cards. For example, if a card is dual-branded as Visa and Cartes Bancaires, the brand listed first takes priority.

Dual-Brand and Combo Cards

Unified Checkout accepts dual-branded cards. To use this feature, include the card networks that have overlapping bank identification number (BIN) ranges in the session allowedCardNetworks field:

"allowedCardNetworks": ["VISA", "MASTERCARD", "AMEX"]

When a card number within an overlapping BIN range is entered, Unified Checkout uses the network listed first in allowedCardNetworks for payment processing. Based on the previous example, if the card number 403550XXXXXXXXXX is entered, the payment network for payment processing is Visa.

During the transaction, the card type is populated with the first network in the list, and the detectedCardTypes field in the transient token response includes all detected card types. Unified Checkout includes detectedCardTypes in the transient token response only when it detects more than one card type.

Cartes Bancaires Dual-Brand Support

You can also include Cartes Bancaires as a supported network:

"allowedCardNetworks": ["VISA", "MASTERCARD", "AMEX", "CARTESBANCAIRES"]

When you include Cartes Bancaires as a supported dual-branded card type, Unified Checkout displays a radio button with Visa and Mastercard options at checkout. This lets the customer select which payment scheme to use to process the payment. The radio button defaults to the card type specified in the session request, but Unified Checkout processes the payment using the option the customer selects during checkout.

Combo Cards

A combo card is a single card that supports both debit and credit processing, most commonly used in Brazil. Set captureMandate.comboCard to true to let the customer select between debit and credit processing for a combo card at checkout. This is a distinct mechanism from dual-brand card selection: dual-brand selection chooses between card networks on an overlapping BIN range, while combo card selection chooses between debit and credit processing modes on the same card.

Brazil-specific combo card transactions can also require the buyer's Cadastro de Pessoas Física (CPF) tax identifier. Set captureMandate.CPF.required to true to display the CPF field in the checkout UI. For the full field definitions, see Capture Mandate Fields in the Field Reference.
